“Her clinching the title is a victory for us as young rural women who are also aspiring models. Most rural girls lack confidence because of the perception that no success can come out from a remote area like ours.

“She has put our area on the map,” said Nolwandle Mgenge, a local beauty queen in a Sunday World article.

The publication also revealed that Mswane may have been destined for the title all along since she has royal blood running through her veins.

Lalela is reportedly the niece of inkosi Phineas Buzayiphi Mthiyane of the KwaSokhulu tribal council, and he could not be more proud. Mthiyane also praised Lalela for staying true to her roots despite living in Gauteng all this time.

He also mentioned how she spends a lot of her time mentoring young women and organising career guidance and other initiatives for young people in the small village.
