A month after his election, Johannesburg mayor Kabelo Gwamanda attended the State of the City Address at the city council on Tuesday, 6 June and left Mzansi with many questions.

MZANSI REACTS TO JOHANNESBURG MAYOR KABELO KWAMANDA

This follows after the city faced a service delivery crisis, poor financial management, and disputes between political parties over the past year, EWN reported. According to News24, Gwamanda won his recent appointment by 139 votes against his Action SA’s Funzi Ngubeni, who got 59 votes, and the Democratic Alliances’ Mpho Phalatse, who managed to secure only 68 votes.

In a video trending online, Gwamanda delivers the State of the City Address, speaking rather slowly, giggling to himself, taking long awkward pauses, and even passing air through his nose as if trying to blow something out. His mannerisms and way of addressing the house-made tweeps curious to know what was happening in his head.

While many people voiced that he was probably nervous about delivering the State of the City Address, many others were concerned about his behaviour and compared his mannerisms to those of South Africa’s popular former street dweller Bonga Sithole. However, according to Sowetan LIVE, Gwamanda had actually fallen sick on Tuesday, and his condition reportedly worsened the following day to the point that the medical team on standby at the city council advised him to be excused and go to a medical facility for immediate treatment and observation.
