Businessman Max Lichaba is suing his stepson, Lwandle “Ocean L” Ndaba, son of legendary actress Sophie Ndaba, for R500 000 after the 21-year-old released a song accusing Lichaba of cheating on, and abusing Sophie.

MAX LICHABA SUES LWANDLE FOR R500 000

The song in question is titled My Stepfather’s a Devil. Lwandle released the song last month, sending shock waves on social media as he got into his perspectives of his mother, Sophie Ndaba and Max Lichaba’s marriage. The pair tied the knot in a traditional ceremony in 2018 and are now headed for divorce.

In the song Lwandle alleged that Max Lichaba cheated on his mother with his best friend who is old enough to be his daughter. He also alleged that Max abused Sophie.

Last week Lichaba filed a court application at the Johannesburg High Court stating that the song was a deliberate attack on his reputation and painted him as a physically and emotionally abusive husband to his estranged wife. He is therefore suing him for R500 000.

“The audio track was received and came to the attention of the public at large , clients, business associates and/or potential clients and business associates as well as friends and family members of the plaintiff,” wrote Lichaba in the application according to City Press.

LICHABA IS SUING FOR DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER

He went on to say that Lwandle refused to remove the song from his social media platforms despite being sent a letter of demand.

“The audio track was published and distributed to the general public, both nationally and internationally, via the following platforms: Facebook and various Facebook groups, WhatsApp messenger and various WhatsApp groups, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube,” he continued.

Lichaba went on to say that he was wrongfully accused of causing Sophie Ndaba mental health issues.

“The audio track and/or lyrics are wrongful and defamatory in that same were intended and understood to mean that the plaintiff is evil and like a devil; is guilty of infidelity, is financially abusive and misused his estranged wife’s finances; is dishonest and a fraud; and is without moral fibre and business ethics,” wrote Lichaba.

He added that the song strained his reputation and his is therefore suing for defamation of character.

“As a result of the defamation, the plaintiff has been damaged in reputation and has suffered damages in the amount of R500 000 and prays that the defendant meets the costs of the suit,” he continued.

Lwandle Ndaba’s lawyers stated that they have been instructed to defend the matter and believed their client is on “solid legal ground.”

LICHABA DENIES ABUSING SOPHIE

Following the release of My Stepfather’s a Devil, Max Lichaba released a statement denying the abuse allegations made against him.

“I fully support the campaigns and organisations promoting awareness for violence against women and children. I distance myself from any allegations to this effect and confirm my support to these campaigns. Any allegation against me to this effect, is denied and dismissed with the contempt it deserves,” said Lichaba in a personal statement.
