The Hollywood actor, who has not been spotted publicly since the highly-anticipated Friends reunion earlier this year, was seen walking out of a Starbucks in Los Feliz, California, on Saturday 25 September wearing an oversize T-shirt, white basketball shorts and Nike sneakers.

Earlier this year, Perry sparked concerns over his health after the actor slurred his speech during a Friends reunion promo, reports Page Six. However, a source at the time came to the Hollywood star’s defence, stating that he had just had “an emergency tooth procedure” the day of the shoot.

“He had been in pain, from what we understand, which caused the slurred speech,” they continued. “Obviously no one wants to film after a procedure, but it happened.”

Sobriety issues

The actor has long been open about his struggle with sobriety, which included rehab stints in 1997, 2001 and 2011, telling BBC Radio 2 in 2016 that he “[doesn’t] remember three years” of Friends somewhere between Season 3 and 6.”

A source confirmed in May 2021, “Matthew has told those around him that he is sober, and there is no need to worry.”

Meanwhile, in June 2021, it was revealed that Perry and his fiancée, Molly Hurwitz, had called off their engagement. The star subsequently kept a low profile for a few months — until now.

The pressures of stardom

During the Friends roundtable, Perry recalled feeling like he was “going to die” while filming every episode.

“To me, I felt like I was going to die if they didn’t laugh,” he said to his fellow castmates who admitted that they actually thrived under the pressure of performing in front of a live audience.

“It’s not healthy, for sure, but I would sometimes say a line and they wouldn’t laugh and I would sweat and just go into convulsions if I didn’t get the laugh I was supposed to get,” Perry added. “I would freak out.”
