Mark Pilgrim was fighting aggressive stage four cancer with every fibre of his being. But when The South African contacted him to chat about his battle “with the big C”, the veteran host gladly obliged – and most likely with a smile on his face.

Known for his positive approach to life, and his willingness to succeed at anything he put his mind to, the veteran radio presenter spoke earnestly about his future plans.

And that included saying his wedding vows to his partner Adrienne Watkins, who was at his side when he took his last breath.

MARK PILGRIM REFLECTS ON PROPOSAL…AND LOOKS AHEAD TO WEDDING

Speaking to The South African, Mark Pilgrim reflected on the moment he proposed to Adrienne Watkins on New Year’s Eve, as well as his future goals.

THE SOUTH AFRICAN: Tell us about your engagement. Did she say yes?

MARK PILGRIM: “Yes, she did!

“I knew for a while but didn’t know when it was going to happen as I wanted to be home when I proposed. It worked out well as her family was here from England when I got down on one knee.

“She is over the moon with excitement.”

TSA: How did your girls take the news?

MP: “My girls love Adrienne. She has two nieces the same age, so she is used to the ‘girl dynamic’. They are usually with us 50% of the time, but obviously, while I’m recovering, they are spending more time with mum.”

TSA: Do you have a wedding date as yet? And have you and Adrienne started planning?

MP: “I really haven’t thought that far ahead. I would like to be strong enough that I’m standing at the altar!”

GOALS FOR 2023

Besides planning a wedding, Mark Pilgrim revealed his goals for the New Year.

TSA: What are your career, health and personal goals for 2023?

MP: “I want to be well. I want to be healed. I want to be back on radio.”
