MARK PILGRIM: ‘SKINNIER THAN A TOOTHPICK’

The star Mark Pilgrim recently revealed that he only had one Christmas wish: to get out of Netcare Milpark Hospital, where he’s getting treated for his lung cancer.

Pilgrim tells You Magazine that he’s “skinnier than a toothpick” and his face is gaunt, with dark circles around his eyes.

For the past 50 days, he’s shared his treatment, setbacks, and his excitement when his partner, Adrienne Watkins, and daughters Tayla-Jean and Alyssa visited him.

A tearful Watkins tells the publication: “It’s been really tough. Mark’s a massive part of my life and thankfully I have a lot to keep my mind busy in the day – I have an amazing job and all those good things give me a sense of meaning and purpose.”

“A big part of my life has been grey. Mark always says somewhere between black and white, instead of grey, there’s a rainbow. So, it’s trying to remember to see that. But it hasn’t been easy.”

RADIO PERSONALITY DIAGNOSED WITH LUNG CANCER

The fan-favourite media personality Mark Pilgrim, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in February took a turn for the worse in October, when one of his lungs collapsed and he needed to have a drainage pipe inserted to get rid of the fluid build-up.

“They didn’t cut anything away, but they cleaned out the lung, went in with a camera, had a look at the lung, did their bits and bobs,” he says.

The star also had four more procedures, including one to clear mucus from his lungs and another to remove fluid from the abdominal cavity, reports You Magazine.

“It’s a process,” he says. “For some people, it’s quicker – I’m one of the longer patients but I just have to hang tight.”

“But I’m doing okay. It’s been quite a journey. When you spend this long in the hospital you get cabin fever. I just want to go home, but I’m making a lot of progress, slowly, but surely.”

“It’s taking a lot longer than we anticipated, but you’ve got to keep your chin held high and keep at it.”
