South African soccer’s biggest supporter Joy “Mama Joy” Chauke has taken a swipe at her former home team Orlando Pirates. This, after a viral video showed her being denied entry into the Orlando Stadium in a match against Royal AM earlier this month.

The football fanatic – who ditched the Soweto giants in recent years – suspects she was being targeted by the management of the PSL team.

But the colourful character has seemingly had the last laugh with her shady tweets…

MAMA JOY SNUBBED AT ORLANDO STADIUM

Mama Joy is known for her love of football and for being a long-time “Buccaneer.” But that changed in 2021, when the fan traded her 30 years of support for PSL newbies Royal AM, formerly Bloemfontein Celtics.

And that’s the reason many believe is behind the larger-than-life figure’s Orlando Stadium saga.

In the viral clip, a livid Chauke claimed that security barred her from entering the Orlando Stadium. This, despite possessing a valid ticket for the match.

She later reported the incident at the local police station.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, she said of her experience: “The security told me, ‘Mama Joy the boss told us we must not allow you to enter the stadium’ and that time it was 2.45pm and all the supporters were getting inside the stadium”.

She added: “I am still crying because of what happened, going to the gate after buying your own ticket and being denied entry to the stadium hurts.”

THROWING SHADE

Since the incident, Mama Joy has been taking jabs at Orlando Pirates via her Twitter account.

Reflecting on her trip to the 2022 World Cup, where she was an invited guest on behalf of Fifa, Chauke tweeted: “Check me at Doha Hotel and Spa in Qatar then you chase me at Orlando Stadium. Orlando Pirates, am so disappointed with you”. ⁦

DITCHING BUCCANEERS FOR THWILI THWALA

Once a diehard Orlando Pirates, Mama Joy left behind the premier league team in support of MaMkhize’s Royal AM.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika in 2021, she said: “As hard as it is, I am leaving Orlando Pirates. I want to support MaMkhize as a woman in football. And I want to support Royal AM.

“I realised that she loves soccer and had her ambitions set on playing in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) when she acquired the status of Bloemfontein Celtic and that kind of passion and purpose really clinched it for me”.

Recognised for her painted face and makarapa, Mama Joy was widely known to attend all home matches played by Orlando Pirates.

Now a staunch Royal AM supporter, she claims her support was not driven by financial gain.

She told the Sowetan: “There was no ‘transfer fee’. I have seen on social media they are saying MaMkhize asked her son Andile [Mpisane], ‘Andile, what do you want for Black Friday?’. And he said, ‘Buy Mama Joy’. …But MaMkhize didn’t buy Mama Joy. She didn’t come to me. I went to MaMkhize.”

“Those who know me understand and support my decision. Even some fellow Pirates fans. That’s what I need because that’s my decision to take and I have decided.”
