South Africans were left reeling by the news of a fatal Marikana car accident that claimed the lives of South African musicians Mpura, Killer Kau, and their passengers, Khanya “The Voice” Hadebe, DJ Thando Tot, and TD. The six lives were claimed on August 7 while the group was on their way to perform at a gig in Rustenburg. Local police officers have now opened up about the deaths.

South African police spokesperson Boitshoko Moremi has revealed that an investigation into alleged culpable homicide has been opened following the deaths of South African musicians, Mpura, Killer Kau, Khanya “The Voice” Hadebe, DJ Thando Tot, and TD.

Moremi confirmed that the six artists were killed in a car accident that took place in Marikana on the N4 approaching Rustenberg where the group was meant to perform at a gig.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and we hope they find strength during this difficult period. An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the accident. We are again appealing to people to adhere to the regulations as most accidents happen way past curfew time. Work with our law enforcement officials to ensure you arrive alive,” said Moremi in a TshisaLive article.

Celebs share their condolences

Meanwhile, several celebrities have taken some time to share messages of condolences with the families of the deceased. Those closest to Killer Kau and Mpura have expressed disbelief at the fact that their lives were taken at such a promising time in their careers.

Taking to her Instagram, Lady Du shared a heartbreaking video of herself in tears while speaking about losing her “brothers,” Killer Kau and Mpura. While Ricky Rick also shared a heartwarming tribute:

“Becoming a legend at a young age is hard but @killerkau_rsa carried the weight on his shoulders.He never stopped. Never changed. Loved by all of us. Just this Friday, we planned to shoot something together with @mpura_mpura, my heart is broken boy. I’m sorry my dawg. Love you so much. Rest Easy king. We won’t forget you. May their souls rest in peace,” read an Instagram post.
