Kaya 959 has introduced two new presenters — Tyroline Franks and Xola Dlwati — a week after the station parted ways with Idols SA judge Unathi Nkayi.

Nkayi was dismissed last week after she laid a complaint with HR against her colleague, Sizwe Dhlomo, where she accused him of being unprofessional and verbally abusive towards her.

FRANKS AND DLWATI’S SHOWS AT KAYA 959

Entertainment commentator, Phil Mphela announced (26 November) that Franks and Dlwati are the new talents joining the station as part of the station’s new training and development initiative.

Mphela further added that Tyroline Franks and Xola Dlwati will host new shows which will start 1 December.

The station has confirmed that Franks will host the 3am to 6am weekend slot and Dlwati will host the 2am to 5am weekday slot.

Kaya 959’s Commercial Programming Manager, Maekanya Morotoba told The South African:

“Discovering and nurturing new talent is, for me, one of the cornerstones of radio programming.”

“We should always be looking for fresh voices. With that comes different perspectives, fresh story-telling and new opportunities for aspirant presenters”.

Morotoba added that Tyroline Franks began her radio career at a community radio, Eldos FM. in Eldorado Park in Johannesburg, and first joined Kaya 959 as a graduate from the Wits Radio Academy.

Similarly, Xola Dlwati also hails from Eldos FM as a former sports editor and presenter at the community radio, and joined the Kaya 959 team as a qualified Engineer as well as a graduate from the Wits Radio Academy.

Fans of Tyroline Franks were thrilled to hear that she’ll be part of the station’s new lineup and also congratulated Dlwati on his new show.

UNATHI’S EXIT AND NEW VENTURES

Unathi Nkayi left Metro FM in 2017 and joined Kaya 959 in March 2020 after almost three years of radio silence.

She took over Bridget Masinga’s midday show, Midday Joy, which airs Mondays to Thursdays from noon to 3 pm.

In the statement issued by Kaya 959, the station confirmed that the 43-year-old’s contract with the station ended and noted that a replacement presenter is to be announced soon.

She also made headlines this week when it was reported that she’s been replaced as the host of GQ’s ‘Man of the Year’ Awards just after a week of getting fired from Kaya 959.

News 24 reported (23 November) that the singer is set to be the host of season two of The Festive Get Together in The Life Artois on Mzansi Magic.

She will host the show alongside chef Alessandro Khojane and the first episode of the new season will air on 1 December at 9.30 pm.
