It’s been exactly three months since the murder of AKA – real name Kiernan Forbes – and 11 weeks since he was laid to rest at Heroes Acre at the West Park Cemetary in Johannesburg.

But with pictures of his grave flooding social media, fans – or the Megacy – have made a bizarre observation: Is the rapper buried in another location?

On Twitter recent images posted on Twitter appear to be set in a different background to the one he was buried in back in February.

However, the explanation is pretty simple…

AKA’S GRAVE: CEMETARY OFFICIAL EXPLAINS…

Speaking to The South African, West Park Area Manager Zolile Mphophoma revealed that AKA’s tombstone had recently been permanently erected.

This, followed a temporary placement after his funeral on 18 February. After his burial, a tombstone was set up by a funeral parlour for display purposes only. It was then removed for the ground to settle, as is required.

During the temporary placement, AKA’s tombstone ran parallel to a road in the background. Following his parents’ visit last weekend, the monument appears in the opposite direction in new images.

Mphophoma claimed that the latter is the required “location.”

He said: “AKA’s tombstone is not in the wrong direction. All tombstones in that section face the same direction.

WHY IS TOMBSTONE ERECTED AFTER LESS THAN THREE MONTHS?

Another concern from fans was the fact that AKA’s tombstone had been permanently erected less than three months after his burial.

According to experts, while the practice is not unusual, it is recommended that a tombstone be installed after 6-12 months after the burial.

AKA’s five-star funeral service was facilitated by funeral parlour Broodie, who rolled out the red carpet for the hitmaker. From a BMW motorcade to an elegant church and graveside set-up, it was clear that no expense was spared.

Mphophoma says it is “up to the respective families to erect memorial work for their loved ones.”

He added: “However, in the Area of High Profile (Heroe’s Acre), families are advised to erect memorial work 12 months after the burial”.

According to the official, the AKA family sought special permission to bury him at Heroes Acre, as requested and granted by the Gauteng Office of the MMC in Community Development.  The rapper is buried amongst other profile stars like Mshoza, Robbie Malinga and Joe Mafela.

On the question of if AKA’s grave was fairground to his legion of fans, Mphophomo added: “Our cemeteries are public facilities. The public is allowed to visit”.
