Who is Jub Jub? From rape allegations to his prison sentence, here are five things to know about the ‘Uyajola 9/9’ host.

Musician and television personality Molemo Maarohanye, popularly known as Jub Jub, made headlines on Thursday 2 December for allegedly raping actress Amanda du Pont for two years.

JUB JUB ACCUSED OF RAPING AMANDA DU PONT 

Amanda du Pont accused Jub Jub of rape, abuse and trying to kill her via a lenghty emotional Instagram post on 2 December. This followed Jub Jub’s interview on Podcast And Chill with MacG where he said he “smashed” Amanda. She responded saying he did not “smash” her, he “raped” her.

“So no you didn’t smash me, you forcefully opened my legs and you forced yourself on me numerous times for two years. The most painful part of all of this was that I was a virgin and I told him at the time. I told Jub Jub at the time that I was a virgin and I planned to be a virgin until the time I got married,” said Amanda.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT JUB JUB 

1. HE IS KNOWN FOR HIS HIT ‘NDIKHOKHELE BAWO’

The musician has been in the spotlight for some time. He is the son of Jackie Maarohanye, known as “Mama Jackie.”  He is popular for his Xhosa gospel hit Ndikhokhele bawo, meaning “guide me, father.”

He released a remix of the song in 2020. 

2. HE SERVED JAIL TIME FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER 

The musician was convicted of attempted murder on 5 December 2012. This was because he and his friend Themba Tshabalala were allegedly drag racing on a public road near a school while under the influence of drugs in March 2010. 

The car accident killed four children and left the two surviving children brain damaged. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison but he was released on parole in 2017. 

3. ‘ABUSIVE’ RELATIONSHIP WITH KELLY KHUMALO

The Ndikhokhele bawo hitmaker was in a relationship with Kelly Khumalo and they have a son named Christian together. Kelly accused him of abusing her in a tell-all interview with MTV Base titled Kelly Khumalo: Behind the Story.

The television personality has been slammed as a “deadbeat” dad but – he leaked audio clips on Podcast And Chill where he claimed he asked to have a relationship with Christian. 

4. JUB JUB IS MARRIED 

The claimed his “wife” supported him through his hardest times in an interview with Metro FM in 

“In other relationships I was in, we were growing into life. This woman has stood the test of time. She was there before, she stood by me through my prison term, through the trials and tribulations. She never judged me, she never cursed me, she never looked at me in a different kind of way,” he said. 

He did not reveal the identity of his wife, he said that she does not want fame.

“One of the mistakes I made was to bring my private life into the public eye. She doesn’t want fame. She doesn’t want cameras, the pictures, none of that,” he continued.

5. UYAJOLA 9/9

The attempted murder charges seemed to be washed away when the musician landed a role as the host of Uyajola 9/9. The television personality catches cheaters in the series which would trend on Twitter after each episode aired. 

Uyajola 9/9 has since been replaced with a new show You Promised To Marry Me.
