The funeral of Kuli Roberts was a celebration of her life and all that she achieved during her 49 years on the planet…

But as sombre as it sounded, there were many light-hearted moments when speakers remembered the late star’s feisty, no-nonsense character.

At one point guests and even tweeps were taken aback when praise singer and poet Jessica Mbangeni took a tumble on stage during her performance.

JESSICA MBANGENI PRAISES KULI ROBERTS

Jessica Mbangeni, a Xhosa praise poet, took to the stage to compare the late star to struggle icon, Winnie Madikizela Mandela.

She said during the service: “Nomakula Kuli Roberts, we will always remember you, for our heritage, it helps us to preserve our culture…”

She later wrote on Facebook of her experience: “My day was full of pain and agony. Our pillar of strength, the voice of the voiceless has left us to the world of our great fathers… Rise in the glory of God, Kuli Roberts”.

TWEEPS REACT TO TUMBLE

A number of tweeps reacted to Jessica Mbangeni’s embarrassing fall during the memorial service. One tweep even suggested Kuli Roberts was trying to send the praise poet a message from the grave!

“I think Kuli had something to do with Jessica Mbangeni falling. Kuli Roberts said “Yey ngizakuu” wathi vys wathi uyavika u Jess wawa [Hey, I’m going to go Jess]”.

“Babe must really consider letting go of this praise poet career. At tata Maponya’s memorial she was chased off the stage”.

“Jessica Mbangeni fell and it all seemed like it was part of the script”.
