Friends, family and fans have gathered in Zone 6 Venue, Soweto, to celebrate the life of renowned actor Jamie Bartlett who died on 23 May due to cardiac arrest.

His manager and partner, Rosa Onious, told Jacaranda FM that Bartlett always wanted his memorial service to be held in Soweto.

She explained they set the start time to 16:00 to allow people who come from work to attend. The service will be held until 20:00.

Jamie Bartlett’s partner hopes to see fans at memorial

“Some of the speakers include the Rhythm City crew, his colleagues, and family friend. We would like all his fans who loved him to be there,” she added.

Bartlett who was best known for his role as the infamous, villain David Genaro on Rhythm City was laid to rest in a private funeral at St George’s Cathedral in Cape Town on 2 June.

Those close to Bartlett shared fond memories of him and spoke about his “larger-than-life personality”.

Rosa Onious bids farewell to her love

Close friend and one of the Rhythm City writer’s, Craig Freimond, read out a touching tribute from Onious on her behalf.

“Jamie, thank you for believing in me, thank you for choosing me, and thank you for a beautiful life you gave us. I will love you forever. Rosa.”

Bartlett also built a name for himself with his work in theatre and in film productions such as Mandela:Long Walk to Freedom released in 2013.
