Miss South Africa 2018 and medical doctor Tamaryn Green shared photos of her Umabo on Instagram on Sunday 2 October. Tamaryn is married to social entrepreneur Zesimdumise “Ze” Nxumalo.

A Umabo is a closing ceremony of traditional Zulu weddings. There are different stages to the traditional Zulu wedding. This includes the payment of the lobola. Lobola is known as the “bridal wealth” that the groom pays to the bride’s family.

Another stage is the Umabo. The bride’s family is given gifts prior to the wedding. However, on the day of the Umabo it is the bride’s turn to gift the groom’s family according to Emdoneni Lodge. The exchange of gifts symbolises the forming of a new bond between the two families.

This comes after the pair’s “white wedding” in April this year. Take a look at the photos from the Umabo.
