Heinz Winckler is in the firing line from angry followers and fans who have reacted to news of his involvement in a transgender school row.

The singer and pastor was thrust into controversy last week after it was revealed that he led a protest group of parents who questioned a transgender pupil at a Somerset West school.

According to reports, the Idols SA season one winner became the subject of a online petition against him, which has since garnered over 3000 signatures

Now tweeps are having their say too!

‘HEINZ WINCKLER SPREADING THE HATE’

According to online petition on Change.org called ‘Heinz Winckler: Everyone deserves love, stop your hate’, the father of four is accused of “spreading hate” amongst the Cape Town school.

The petition reads: “Heinz Winckler, spreading the “hate” instead of the “love” of his apparent religion.

“And what is he going to do when one of his children goes through the same experience? Hate them? Judge them?

“Sign to say no to the hate and judgment, but yes to love for all.”

According to Rapport, a request by the parents was made to the school for them to treat the child as a female, in terms of uniform and identity. The school governing agreed to the request, but a number of parents spoke out in disagreement.

A protest group reportedly helmed by Heinz – who also governs as a pastor at LoveKey Church in Somerset West, sparked the debate.

Reacting to the backlash, Heinz told Netwerk 24: “I can see that a reasonable and meaningful conversation won’t be possible in the public space.”

TWEEPS CALL FOR BOYCOTT AGAINST SINGER

A number of social media users have called for Heinz Winckler to face a boycott.

“Heinz what world are you living in? We are all human and equal. South Africa, let’s rally behind this learner and show Heinz who is boss! Don’t support him!”.

Another added: “@heinzwinckler, if you’re so bothered by a school treating a trans kid in a way that affirms & supports their identity, surely you can just take YOUR kids out of the school??

A third added: “Heinz Winkler’s career went up in smoke and now he is bullying a kid for being trans. What a douche.”

One Instagram follower – who commented on a picture of Heinz, his wife Alette and their four children wearing T-shirts with the words “You can sit with us”, read: “Clearly I can’t since I’m transgender and queer..bunch of hypocrites trying to preach about bullying and love thy neighbour”.
