Family, friends, and fans are still in shock following the brutal murder of businessman and musician DJ Sumbody on Sunday 20 November in Gauteng.

Media personality Somizi Mhlongo has paid tribute to the Ayepyep Lifestyle co-owner whose real name was Oupa John Sefoka.

SOMIZI AND DJ SUMBODY’S LAST CONVERSATION

In an Instagram post on Sunday, the Idols SA judge shared screenshots of his last conversation with DJ Sumbody.

Somizi started by expressing that he is numb after the news of his friend’s passing.

“I am numb… I no longer know how to feel and react to the news of loss of loved ones… we definitely are living on borrowed time,” he wrote.

Telling the story of their last chat, which was the day before DJ Sumbody was killed, Somizi says that the musician had sent him a poster of his All-White Veuve Clicquot Picnic which was sent to take place on Sunday, 20 November.

“I then offer to post for him but he just says YEP… then I tell him to have manners which he still doesn’t get it why I say so which he decides to video call to get clarity then I tell him that he’s supposed to say pls and thanks when someone shows acts of kindness which we laugh about and at that time he was at a salon getting groomed [sic]

“His last words to me were don’t forget to wear white tomorrow coz it’s gonna look like we are in heaven,” Somizi shared.

The choreographer and Sarafina alum said that he did not think much of DJ Sumbody’s words until the news of his untimely death.

“Little did we know that today it’s gonna be exactly that LITERALLY heaven… rest easy OUPA… what a joker u were… a hard worker and very humble… [sic]”

Somizi also shared a video of his soft life with DJ Sumbody. The clip shows the late DJ and everyone around him inside a private jet and dressed in all white as Somizi — who is behind the camera — gleefully sings.

According to a statement from his management, Sumsounds Music DJ Sumbody died in the early hours of Sunday — which was the same day of his all-white gig.

The event was later cancelled.

The Iyamemeza hitmaker was traveling on Woodmead road in Gauteng when unknown gunmen sprayed his vehicle with a hail of bullets killing him and one of his bodyguards instantly. His other bodyguard was rushed to the hospital.

“The Sefoka family and Sumsounds Music Management have kindly requested privacy during this difficult time and will release a statement in due course,” read part of the statement released by Sumsounds Music Management, which was own by the DJ.

At this stage the motive of the shooting is not yet known but police say have activated a manhunt.

“Gauteng acting police commissioner Major General Tommy Mthombeni has activated maximum resources to trace suspects responsible for the shooting,” police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said.

Details of DJ Sumbody’s funeral and memorial Service will also be released in due course.
