Today is 20 July and it would have been South African rapper Riky Rick’s 35th birthday. 

RIP RIKY RICK 

The family of rapper Riky Rick confirmed that he passed away on the morning of 23 February. He was rumoured to have taken his own life but there was no confirmation of the speculation despite his cryptic last tweet.

“The family is still meeting, and we will release a statement in due course. We ask for your understanding,” said a family spokesperson to Drum.

1. HIS TALENT 

Riky Rick will be remembered for his talent and passion in the music industry. He founded the music and street culture festival Cotton Fest. The rapper also delivered electrifying live performances that are still remembered to this day.

2. RIKY RICK’S FAMILY VALUES 

The rapper’s first album is titled Family Values and that is what his life has been about. Riky Rick loved his wife Bianca Naidoo, their son Maik and Jordan. Jordan is Bianca’s daughter from a previous relationship who the rapper treated like his own.

3. HIS STYLE 

The rapper was known for his bold style and he loved fashion. He hosted dinner parties and other events where many South African celebrities dressed their best and attended.

4. RIKY RICK’S PASSION FOR THE YOUTH 

The Boss Zonke hitmaker was passionate about empower the youth. He reflected this in a tweet back in February.

“Please believe in young people. Give them as many opportunities as they need to prove themselves. At any cost,” he tweeted in February.

His wife Bianca expressed that she wants to continue his legacy by giving the youth opportunities.

“One of Riky’s most critical areas of focus was the youth, the kids, the up and coming generation. It was hugely important for him to find ways to help them elevate them and to grow. His legacy will definitely focus largely on this,” she said according to Art of a Superwoman.

“My hope is that we can continue to use music and Riky’s messaging to help the youth build something amazing,” she continued.
