Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela reports — GQ Magazine replaced radio personality Unathi Nkayi as the host of the upcoming Man of the Year awards via a tweet today (23 November.)

GQ REPORTEDLY REPLACES UNATHI NKAYI

Unathi Nkayi previously announced that she would be hosting GQ Magazine’s Man of the Year awards. After she was fired from Kaya FM, Phil Mphela reported that the magazine replaced her for the event. He went on to say that this is likely linked to the Idols SA judge being fired from Kaya FM.

“BREAKING: GQ drops Unathi. GQ magazine has decided to replace Unathi Nkayi as the host of their upcoming Man Of The Year awards. The decision was likely motivated by the recent reports following her dismissal from Kaya 959,” wrote Mphela in a tweet.

Mphela expressed that it may be unfair to drop Unathi as a host but he understands that brands tend to distance themselves from drama.

“REACTION: Seems unfair but from a brand perspective I understand why GQ would want to distance itself from the current storm around Unathi. When it rains … hey. And, though Idols will be renewed for season 18, there is no guarantee all judges will be rehired,” he tweeted.

DHLOMO VS NKAYI AT KAYA FM

Kaya FM announced that they fired Unathi on Wednesday 17 November. According to the statement, the radio personality was terminated because of a lack of trust.

“Kaya 959 can confirm that certain incidents had occurred, which resulted in the breakdown of trust between the two parties. The business can further confirm that due process was followed and the decision was therefore made to part ways with Ms Nkayi,” said the radio station in a statement.

City Press reported that Unathi got into an altercation with her colleague Sizwe Dhlomo before she was fired. The Idols SA judge lodged a complaint against Sizwe with Human Resources (HR) for verbally abusing her. Sizwe told HR that all conversations, including those off-air were recorded so they need to go through the recordings immediately.

After going through the audio clips, Unathi was reportedly given a chance to retract her complaint, but she refused. Tweeps were displeased with the radio personality because this could have cost Sizwe his job and his reputation.
