Fetty Wap faces jail time after FBI nabs rapper for 100kg of cocaine, heroin

It is reported that American rapper Fetty Wap has been indicted on drug trafficking charges with five other people. The American rapper faces life imprisonment.

American rapper Fetty Wap has reportedly been indicted on drug trafficking charges along with five other people. It is reported that the 679 rapper and the others are accused of transporting and distributing heroin and fentanyl in Long Island, New York.

FETTY WAP ARRESTED

According to CNN, Fetty Wap was arrested on federal drug charges on Thursday 28 October at Citi Field baseball stadium in Queens, New York, ahead of a concert. The artist, also known as William Junior Maxwell II, was had been scheduled to perform at the Rolling Loud music festival there.

“As alleged, the defendants transported, distributed and sold more than 100kg of deadly and addictive drugs, including heroin and fentanyl, on Long, Island, deliberately contributing to the opioid epidemic that has devastated our communities and taken too many lives,” said US attorney Breon Peace. 

“We will continue to work non-stop with our law enforcement partners to keep our neighbourhoods safe from the scourge of dangerous drugs and gun violence.”

DRUG TRADE HAS BECOME ‘VILE’

According to Fox29, the other people charged in the case are correction officer Anthony Cyntje, Anthony Leonardi, Robert Leonardi, Briand Sullivan and Kavaughn Wiggins. If convicted they could face life imprisonment. 

Speaking on the charges, FBI assistant director-in-charge Michael Driscoll said: “The fact that we arrested a chart-topping rap artist and a corrections officer as part of the conspiracy illustrates just how vile the drug trade has become.” 

According to the news publication, the indictment claims that the drugs were obtained on the United States West Coast.

Fetty Wap and the five accused allegedly used US postal services and drivers with hidden compartments to transport the drugs across the country to Suffolk County, New York where they allegedly were stored.

FETTY WAP’S PREVIOUS RUN-IN WITH THE LAW

In 2016, Fetty Wap was pulled over by police in Cedar Grove, New Jersey. He pled guilty to several driving offences including having tinted windows. 

In true rapper fashion, he arrived in court with $165 000 (about R2.5 million) in a stack of notes to pay a $350 (R5 361) fine.
