On 16 May, the Bolt taxi company found themselves having to answer to South African rapper Emtee—real name Mthembeni Ndevu after he used his much-followed Twitter page to call them out for hiring “ex-convicts”.

Amid going through a divorce, Emtee is reportedly not looking for any problems, TimesLIVE reported. He was quoted as saying,

“I don’t want no problems.”

However, recently he was unable to turn the other cheek after he encountered an issue while using the Bolt App. The Roll Up hitmaker rushed straight to his Twitter account, tagged the Bolt Twitter page, and wrote,

@boltapp Why do u guys have ex-cons as drivers?”

“Niyanya nje Nina. Iqiniso liyafuneka Niyanya, Ama driver wenu harass and rape women on top that rude AF.”

Emtee’s fans and Twitter followers joined him in the comment section and agreed with his comments about the company. They encouraged the rapper not to fold in his public dispute.

Eventually, Bolt noticed the rapper’s posts and wrote back to him, saying,

“We want to assure you that the safety of all users of our platform remains our top priority. All our drivers go through rigorous verification steps and provide all relevant statutory documents including a valid Police Clearance Certificate before joining the platform.”

“We’re very concerned to hear this and will investigate the issue comprehensively.”

Bolt then asked the rapper to lodge his complaint privately.
