Elton Jantjies’s wife disappointed in SA Rugby’s statement on ‘affair’

Elton Jantjies’s wife Iva Ristic has expressed her disappointment at how “lightly” the team’s management took reports that her husband is having an affair with the team’s dietician, Zeenat Simjee.

In an interview with News24 on Wednesday, 14 September, the mother-of-three opened up for the first time about the bombshell scandal which rocked the Springboks and her family.

ELTON JANTJIES AND ZEENAT SIMJEE’S ALLEGED AFFAIR

Last Sunday, Elton Jantjies and Zeenat Simjee made headlines when it was confirmed that they were sent home from Argentina after their alleged relationship was made public.

According to Afrikaans publication Rapport, Jantjies wined and dined Simjee with candle-lit dinners, Moët & Chandon Champagne and spa treatments during the week leading up to the Springboks’ first Rugby Championship Test against the All Blacks in Mbombela at the beginning of August.

The pair were reported to have stayed together in two different guest houses, away from the team who stayed at a hotel.

In addition, it was alleged that Jantjies left one of the guest houses without settling his R4 000 account, before checking in to another guest house where his bill amounted to R26 000 – of which he reportedly only paid R5 000.

SPRINGBOKS’ STATEMENT

Following the reports, the SA Rugby released a statement revealing that “no team protocols had been breached”.

“The Springbok management are aware of reports regarding Springbok flyhalf Elton Jantjies and team dietician Zeenat Simjee between the training camp in Sabie and the Test match against New Zealand in Mbombela earlier this year.

“No team protocols were breached, but the individuals are returning to South Africa to attend to these personal reports and to eliminate any distractions to the team’s preparations for the Test against Argentina. No further comment will be made at this time.”

IVA RISTIC: ‘IT’S TAKEN SO LIGHTLY’

Speaking to News24, Ristic expressed concern for the Springboks’ wives in relation to how management handled her husband’s alleged cheating scandal.

She blamed management for taking the scandal “lightly” and for allowing such situations to arise inside the team environment.

“This is very concerning for all the Springbok wives as none of us were aware that this behaviour is actually not breaking any rules and it’s taken so lightly… It’s very disappointing for a World Cup-winning management to allow situations like this to be created inside the team environment.”

She added that she has spoken to her husband about the matter – and that denies the allegations.

“We are speaking all the time. He is very disappointed. I think it’s also good for him to distance himself for the Bok squad and process everything.”

Jantjies and his wife have been together since 2014. The couple, who live in Japan, have three children together.
