Zimbabwean-born South African media personality Bujy Bikwa reportedly refused to share a jail cell with male detainees after his arrest for allegedly assaulting media personality Boity Thulo.

BUJY REFUSES A MALE JAIL CELL

The former Metro FM radio host spent the past weekend behind bars after his bail application for the alleged assault was postponed at the Midrand Magistrates’ Court on Friday 1 October.

Bujy and Boity were said to be out drinking when a fight between the pair emerged. The pair were speaking about ancestors and traditional healers when the conversation spiraled out of control. Bujy then allegedly threw a bottle of alcohol on Boity’s face which led to her being hospitalised. The alleged “attack” took place at the Courtyard Hotel opposite the Mall of Africa in Midrand,Gauteng.

Sunday World reported that a police officer, who did not want to be named said that Bujy refused to go into holding cells with male detainees saying he was uncomfortable. Therefore, he was allocated a single cell, where he spent the night alone.

“Because they could not let him share a holding cell with female detainees, they allocated him a single cell, where he spent the night alone before appearing in court on Friday,” said the police officer to Sunday World.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said that Bujy is set to return to court on Wednesday 6 October.

BOITY SAYS SHE NEEDS TO SEE A PLASTIC SURGEON

Boity Thulo explained to Sunday World that she and Bujy were speaking about ancestors and traditional healers when the conversation got heated. She said that the radio personality then threw a bottle at her face asking if her ancestors would protect her from that.

“I could tell he was becoming agitated, but I did not think he would take it that far. Before he attacked me, he said ‘let’s see if your ancestors will protect you’ and proceeded to throw a glass on my face,” said Boity to Sunday World.

She went on to say she was in a bad place emotionally and because of her line of work she cannot afford to have scars on her face. Therefore, she needs to see a plastic surgeon.

“I am in a bad place emotionally. I keep replaying this in my mind. Not only do I have to deal with the mental effects of his actions, I now have to see a plastic surgeon to see what can be done about the scars,” she continued.

“In my line of work, I can’t afford to have a scar. That’s why I had the foresight to take out insurance for things like this,” she added.

Boity also released a personal statement confirming that she was an “unfortunate” victim of a “vicious physical assault”.
