RIP: DJ Sumbody allegedly shot dead on day of his all-white party

Witnesses allege that Oupa John Sefoka aka DJ Sumbody was shot on Saturday, 19 November and died on Sunday morning of his all-white party.

The family of the amapiano pioneer, Oupa John Sefoka aka DJ Sumbody confirmed his death, while tweeps claim that he died in the early hours of Sunday, 20 November after getting shot. The music producer was due to perform at the All-White Veuve Clicquot Picnic.

DJ SUMBODY ALLEGEDLY SHOT DEAD  

Tweeps also claim that the Ayepyep Lifestyle co-owner Oupa John Sefoka aka DJ Sumbody was gunned down with his bodyguards and died in the early hours of Sunday, 20 November, on the day of his all-white party.  

Sumsounds Music also confirmed the amapiano pioneer’s death in a statement to News24, the Sefoka family “have kindly requested privacy” as “investigations are still ongoing”.

Sunday World reports he was traveling on Woodmead road when unknown gunmen sprayed his vehicle with a hail of bullets killing him and one of his bodyguards instantly.  

A Sandton police officer, who did not want to be named told the publication that a third person, believed to be DJ Sumbody’s second bodyguard, was rushed to hospital in critical condition after being shot multiple times in the solar plexus.  

The musician is popularly known for his 2018 hit song titled Monate Mpolaye which grew famous and gained prominence at a national level.

ANNUAL ALL-WHITE PARTY  

The DJ’s Instagram stories and posts reveal that he was counting down to his Ayepyep fifth edition All White Vueve Picnic. The event was meant to be held on Sunday 20 November from 12:00 to 22:00  

This year’s lineup included Boity, Cassper Nyovest, Lady Du, and many more.  

The event is a laid-back outdoor day-to-night summer experience at Menlyn Maine Front Lawns, in Pretoria. Themed all white with a touch of orange, according to Computicket.  

“Come experience beautiful live performances over some champagne to ease you into the sunset. Where luxury cars, lush lawns, and gardens will provide the backdrop of the picnic set up and a gourmet picnic menu specially designed by our in-house chef at Ayepyep Lifestyle.”
