Twitter users have branded Argentina fans “disgraceful” and “racist” for their eyebrow-raising gesture towards French football player Kylian Mbappe during the World Cup trophy parade through the streets of Buenos Aires on Tuesday 20 December.

ARGENTINA FANS CELEBRATE WORLD CUP VICTORY BY TRASHING MBAPPE

A viral video on social media shows a group of Argintines carrying a coffin with a cross on it and Mbappe’s face. It was the footballer’s birthday on the day of the parade as he turned 24.

In the clip, the coffin was set alight as fans jumped up and down and chanted. The video was posted by Get French Football news, with the caption: “Argentinians with a lovely 24th birthday present for Kylian Mbappé here.”

According to SportsBrief, approximately 4 million Argentines showed up for the open-top bus parade after the South American country won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Sunday 18 December — their first since 1986.

Lionel Messi’s side was level with Mbappe’s France team after 90 minutes as the PSG teammates both scored.

After extra time, Messi had scored his brace for the night while Mbappe had a hattrick. However, despite his three goals, Mbappe’s home country lost 4-2 to Argentina on penalties as Messi and his countrymen were crowned champions.
