AKA – real Kiernan Forbes – has barely been laid to rest, but the late rapper is facing renewed criticism after new bombshell details emerged from a scathing letter issued by the family of his late fiancee Anele Nelli Tembe to the National Prosecution Authority (NPA). This after the latter failed to prosecute anyone – namely Forbes – following her death in 2021.

To make matters worse, the family has since revealed plans to pursue action against the NPA after they claim the state prosecutors failed to disclose a police docket relating to Nelli’s death.

Nelli died after falling to her death off the tenth floor of the Pepper Club Hotel in Cape Town on 10 April 2021. Last Friday, AKA also died on the street – Florida Road in Durban – after he was shot and killed by unknown gunmen.

According to the legal letter – leaked by City Press – the Tembe family list several damning allegations against AKA following Nelli’s death.

In a new development, the family accused the rapper of reportedly making a call to “a certain powerful underworld family in the Western Cape.”

The letter further claims that Nelli’s phone was allegedly “wiped clean” following the tragedy.

In an interview with Bar Leader TV in 2021, AKA – who was born in Mitchells Plain –  claimed that the first person he called after Nelli’s death was his father, Tony Forbes.

He said: “My father lives in Cape Town….I don’t remember even having my phone. I just remember someone passing me a phone, saying my dad wants to speak to me”.

AKA also claimed his dad  – who came to the hotel – called Anele’s family to break the news of her death.

In the letter issued by the Tembe’s family lawyers TM Incorporated Attorneys to the NPA, they revealed their suspicions of what transpired the day Nelli died.

Here are a few…

AKA “threw or pushed” Nelli off the balcony

“The deceased landed at a distance that is consistent with a person that was pushed. She landed approximately five and a half meters away from the building, whereas if she had jumped on her own, she would have landed approximately two meters away from the building.”

Evidence that Nelli was defending herself

“The scratch marks on Forbes’s body, specifically at the back, were defensive marks, in an upward direction, indicating that Forbes was carrying Anele on his shoulders while she attempted to defend herself. The scratch marks are indicative that Forbes threw her over the balcony.”

Evidence AKA allegedly assaulted Nelli

“The blood that was found in the hotel room indicated that there was an assault on Anele prior to her killing.”

Nelli did not climb over the balcony as initially suggested

“The absence of such fingerprints demonstrates the fact that she was pushed or thrown over.”

Police ignored a statement by a hotel room guest

Rob Stefanutto claimed he heard AKA and Nelli arguing in the lead-up to the tragedy.

“The lady, who later turned out to be Anele Tembe, was heard desperately asking the attacker, being male, to leave her alone. Moments thereafter, Stefanutto heard Anele Tembe drop; he then administered CPR on her”.

The Tembe family also claimed that AKA behaved “unbecoming” during and after the death of their daughter.

This includes allegations that he:

Partied and drank AFTER her death

“Forbes partied and drank at the hotel with his entourage following the passing of his fiancée,” read the letter.

AKA IGNORED Nelli, who was still alive for 20 minutes after the fall

“He did not attend to his injured fiancé, who remained alive for approximately 20 minutes. He did not go to perform CPR on her; instead, Stefanutto, a complete stranger, cared enough to administer CPR and call emergency services in an attempt to save Anele Tembe’s life.”

He cleaned up the blood, possibly concealing an altercation.

“Forbes cleaned up the hotel room. There was blood on the towels.”

Made a call to reception for assistance AFTER her fall

During an interview with Bar Leader TV, AKA she claimed that he called hotel security for assistance. This, after an argument between him and Tembe became heated. He then claimed he went to the bathroom, and Nelli was “gone” when he returned.

He said: “Events are blurry because I didn’t lay eyes on her at the time I made the call to security. The phone was here, and the balcony was over there when I made the call… so I tried to get out of the situation. I don’t know whether it was during the call that she had jumped or when I was in the bathroom, or whatever the sequence of events are, but that’s how I remember it.”

But the Tembe family has disputed that claim. The letter states: “The call that Forbes made to the reception was made after Anele Tembe had already landed on the ground.

“The video footage that captured her fall records a time that is prior to the call that Forbes made to the reception of the hotel. The evidence in the form of the record of the call and the video footage, which are contained in the docket, were shockingly ignored. The receptionist is easily contradicted by that”
