Nelli Tembe topped the Twitter trends list after her former fiancé AKA was shot dead in Durban. Here’s a look at a timeline of their romance.

The late Anele “Nelli” Tembe has been trending on Twitter following the death of her former fiancé rapper Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, popularly known as AKA — who was shot dead outside of Wish Restaurant on Florida Road, Durban on Friday 10 February.

NELLI TEMBE TRENDS ON TWITTER FOLLOWING AKA’S DEATH
AKA was engaged to a then-22-year-old Nelli Tembe, when she passed away on 11 April 2021. Nelli is said to have plunged to her death from the tenth floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town. Following Nelli’s death, AKA moved on and got into a relationship with rapper Nadia Nakai.
AKA was tragically shot dead outside of Wish Restaurant on Florida Road, Durban on Friday 10 February. Nelli then began trending on Twitter as Tweeps unfoundedly claimed that Nelli’s family was involved in AKA’s murder.
Nelli’s father, Moses Tembe released a statement saying that he was shocked to learn of the rapper’s death and extended his condolences to the family.

TIMELINE OF AKA AND NELLI TEMBE’S RELATIONSHIP
JANUARY 2020
In January 2020, a video of AKA and Nelli surfaced on Twitter while many people thought he was still in a relationship with the mother of his child, DJ Zinhle. However, AKA jumped in to clear the air and confessed his love for the new fresh-faced beauty, who we later learnt was Nelli Tembe.
Towards the end of January, AKA posted the first picture of Nelli to his Instagram account which left fans guessing.

FEBRUARY 2020
In February 2020, AKA took to Twitter to thank the person who shared the video of him and the then-22-year-old. He said it was one of the “biggest favours someone ever did” for him.
MAY 2020
In May 2020, AKA posted one of the first pictures of him and the aspiring chef stargazing into each other’s eyes. The picture was captioned “cross my heart”.
A few days earlier, he posted a “teaser” picture with Tembe’s back turned to the camera.
JULY 2020
In July 2020, AKA announced that he had contracted COVID-19 and that Nelli was taking care of him on his road to recovery.
FEBRUARY 2021
To the surprise of many, AKA put a ring on Tembe’s finger in February 2021, showing the world how serious he is about their relationship. He posted a picture of the sparkling diamond ring to his Instagram.
MARCH 2021
A few weeks later, in March 2021 AKA paid the traditional “lobola” to the Tembe family to secure her hand in marriage.
APRIL 2021
The couple spent the Easter weekend together along what seems to be the KwaZulu-Natal coast.
The Saturday before her shocking death, AKA shared images and videos of their time spent together in Cape Town on his Instagram Stories — from shopping to their night out.
