CHARLIZE THERON: ‘WE ARE LIVING IN A TIME OF REALITY TELEVISION’

The actress and producer Charlize Theron added that we are living in a time of reality TV and that businesswoman Kim Kardashian wields more power in Hollywood than Meryl Streep.

“We are living in a time of reality television, and God knows I love me some reality TV.  So, the marketplace of what Kim Kardashian represents – and not in a negative way because I watch everything that she does, that has way more value than what Meryl Streep, one of the greatest actresses working does. And that’s just the truth.”

Explaining her point of view, Theron said stars like Kardashian have different skills and for them having access to the industry is much easier.

The Citizen reveals that Theron was also talking about where her career is currently and how it has changed over the years. She admitted her “currency” had changed as she isn’t able to get some movie projects as she did previously.

ACTRESS REVEALED: ‘AFRIKAANS IS UNHELPFUL’

The South African-born actress Charlize Theron made headlines in November when she ruffled feathers with her comments about her mother tongue, Afrikaans.

In an episode of the SmartLess Podcast on Monday 14 November, the Atomic Blonde star said that Afrikaans is a “dying language” and it “is not a very helpful language.”

The Mad Max: Fury Road actress added that she only started speaking English fluently at the age of 19 when she left South Africa to pursue her acting career in the United States.

“That’s why it was easy for me to drop the [South African] accent because I was really learning English from scratch,” she said, adding that she took English as a second language in school.

“There are about 44 people still speaking it. It’s definitely a dying language; it’s not a very helpful language,” Charlize Theron added.
