It is no secret that amapiano has taken South Africa by storm with most of our musicians wanting a piece of the excitement. It seems entrepreneur, television personality and rapper Boity Thulo has hopped onto the wave with a powerful start.

BOITY DABBLES IN AMAPIANO

Boity released The She Can Anthem in collaboration with Kotex on 11 June. This came after her debut EP, 4436, was released towards the end of 2020. The EP featured the likes of Riky Rick, Yanga Chief and Nasty C.

The Sama-nominated rapper took to Instagram Live, sharing a teaser of an amapiano song featuring her vocals. Of course, the song eventually found its way on to Twitter, leaving fans quite impressed as most seemed to thoroughly enjoy the song. It’s uncertain if the song is Boity’s or if she is just a feature, but time will tell.

SOCIAL MEDIA REACTS

The snippet was met with plenty of excitement, with a few tweeps sharing they feel the song is pure fire!

“Boity is doing Amapiano now, it’s gonna be very interesting.. The song is dope thou.”

RAPPERS AND AMAPIANO

Heavyweight rapper Reason set Twitter on fire after sharing the snippet of his collaboration with DJ Maphorisa, Khanda Shisa. Reason released the song under a new name Sizwe Alakine.

Fans of South African hip-hop were dazed and confused about his decision to take a swing at amapiano,. Cassper Nyovest also weighed in on the conversation noting himself as a leader at hopping genres.

“They always criticize in the beginning but they ALWAYS FOLLOW. It don’t matter no more doe, it’s adapt or die.”

Reason asked what the issue was with rappers making amapiano music because the sound is completely South African. “We still love hip-hop. But the country loves piano (more)”.
