South African media personality Anele Mdoda hosted the Universal+ launch event at TANG Restaurant in Johannesburg on 12 October.

ANELE MDODA HOSTS UNIVERSAL+ EVENT

NBCUniversal International Networks & Direct-To-Consumer and DStv hosted an event at TANG Restaurant in Johannesburg, in celebration of Universal+ on 12 October. Universal+ will be launching across Africa on Friday 14 October. 

Anele Mdoda – host of local NBCUniversal International Networks & Direct-To-Consumer original production Celebrity Game Night, led proceedings for the evening. The event featured live performances from Shekinah and Sho Madjozi. 

Stars enjoyed DJ sets from Ms Cosmo and DJ Nova until late, with Jason Goliath, Roxy Burger, Chris Jaftha, Lasizwe Dambuza, Mihlali Ndamase, Tumi Mhlongo, Tyra Chikocho, Lydia Forson and Dineo Langa.

Team captain from Celebrity Game Night Jason Goliath joined their co-star Anele Mdoda in celebrating the Universal+ launch. All three seasons of Celebrity Game Night will be available on Universal+, with the brand-new fourth season launching in 2023. 

Roxy Burger and Chris Jaftha hosted a red carpet where they caught up with some of Africa’s biggest stars before heading in to enjoy celebrations. Below Deck Down Under star Tumi Mhlongo was among them, with new episodes of Below Deck Down Under also available on Universal+.

Content highlights include Celebrity Game Face, Mathis Family Matters, Welcome Home Nikki Glaser?, Keeping Up with The Kardashians and more.

Executives from NBCUniversal International Networks & Direct-To-Consumer and DStv also gathered for the occasion. Lee Raftery, Managing Director EMEA for NBCUniversal International Networks & Direct-To-Consumer, opened proceedings by saying a few words alongside MultiChoice Group CEO Nyiko Shiburi. 

“We’re thrilled to launch Universal+ with our long-standing partner DStv, giving their customers a brand-new way to enjoy a vastly expanded catalogue of our best content,” said Raftery, Managing Director Europe, Middle East & Africa, NBCUniversal International Networks & Direct-To-Consumer. 

“From Friday 14 October, the incredible line-up of entertainment available to DStv customers ranges from award-winning original production Celebrity Game Night – which shortly goes back into production for a fourth season – to gripping dramas and Hollywood blockbusters. And, it’s all at no extra cost to a subscription,” continued Raftery.
