An upcoming biopic about late British musician Amy Winehouse titled Back To Black has caused an uproar on social media following the reveal of the actress who will play the Rehab singer’s role.

Fans are not happy about actress Marisa Abela scoring the coveted role, however, Amy Winehouse’s father Mitch Winehouse is happy with the casting — TMZ reports.

FANS NOT HAPPY WITH AMY WINEHOUSE CHARACTER

Last week, a first look of actress Marisa Abela as the legendary singer resulted in an upset among fans. Many believe the Industry star is not Amy’s doppelganger, calling her a “low-budget Amy Winehouse” or “Amy Winehouse from SHEIN” — among other labels.

“Always felt from the start that Marisa as Amy Winehouse was nepotism. Read that an ‘unknown who looked like Amy’ was the goal. It seemed to have been cast so early most people didn’t even know it was happening. Now, an Amy who bears no resemblance and who may not be a singer???” one tweep said.

“Those photos from the Amy Winehouse biopic look like they came from a bad snl skit, that film needs to be shut down and they need to let Amy rest,” another tweep said.

MITCH DEFENDS MARISA ABELA

Amy Winehouse’s dad defended Marisa against the critics.

“She is a great choice for the role, even if she doesn’t look exactly like Amy.

“It’s no big deal if they aren’t mirror images,” he added.

TMZ reported that Mitch sees Marisa as Marisa and Amy is Amy.

“There’s too much emphasis on looks,” he said.

Meanwhile, sources on the set of Back to Black told the Daily Mail that filming is only due to last eight weeks, which industry insiders believe is not very long for such a production.

One insider was quoted as saying: “It all feels very fast, almost a bit smash and grab.”
