Women For Change have added joined hands with female activists calling on the public to “stop shaming Amber Heard”

The South African NGO – that advocate against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide – have signed an open letter condemning the “vilification” of the Hollywood actress.

Amber – who is divorced from US actor Johnny Depp – was ordered to pay $10.35 million damages in their highly-publicised defamation trial in June.

Since they split in 2016, Amber has accused Hollywood of blackballing her career. She’s also lamented the public for their personal attacks on her.

Amber Heard accused Johnny Depp of physically, verbally, and emotionally abusing her throughout their 15-month marriage – claims a US court claimed she failed to prove.

WOMEN FOR CHANGE BACKS AMBER HEARD

International organisations, and activists like advocate Gloria Steinem, and Crazy, Rich Asians actress Constance Wu have lent their support to Amber Heard by signing the letter.

And so has SA’s Women For Change, who shared news of their pledge on their social media accounts.

They shared in a post: “We are very proud to join 300 organizations and experts in signing a letter condemning the public shaming of Amber Heard, and supporting the ability of all to report intimate partner and sexual violence free of harassment and intimidation.

“The harassment and victim-blaming of Amber Heard and her supporters had far-reaching consequences, potentially chilling the willingness of survivors to report domestic and sexual abuse.

The post continued: “Every survivor should be able to report abuse without fear of retaliation or intimidation. Seeing allegations of domestic violence and sexual assault mocked for entertainment has caused survivors to question whether or not it is safe to report their abuse, and the misinformation about domestic abuse and sexual violence has led to widespread public misunderstanding of how survivors react to abuse”

“We believe Amber Heard. We believe all survivors. Always!”
