The South African Police Service (SAPS) in KwaZulu-Natal has confirmed that rapper Kiernan Jarryd Forbes popularly known as AKA was allegedly shot dead in a drive-by shooting on Florida Road in Morningside, Durban.

The rapper had a gig in Durban on Friday, 10 February as part of his birthday celebration tour and moments before he was allegedly shot, he took to social media to share his whereabouts and activities.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the prominent rapper was shot with another person believed to be his bodyguard. However according to reports, the rapper’s close friend was also shot dead and his bodyguard was wounded.

Netshiunda said as the rapper was leaving the restaurant, unknown assailants in two vehicles opened fire.

ALS paramedic Garrith Jamieson told TimesLive that he responded to the scene of a shooting incident just after 22:15 on Friday night.

Jamieson said on arrival, paramedics met total chaos and a scene where two men, believed to be in their late 30s,  sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

“Paramedics assisted the men and unfortunately the first male had sustained multiple gun shot wounds and showed no signs of life and was declared deceased at the scene,” he said.

The second male was reportedly found in a critical condition and died despite advanced life support intervention due to extensive injuries.
