Many people are still struggling to come to terms with the death of hip hop star Kiernan “AKA” Forbes who was killed in Durban on 10 February this year. One of those people is Podcast and Chill host MacG who recently had a discussion about the rapper’s untimely passing and how short life actually is.

Touching on his words, Women For Change organisation decided to highlight how many women – just like AKA – are killed daily and how anxious that makes women in South Africa.

MacG touches on how AKA’s death made him feel

Millions of South Africans are mourning the death of AKA who was assassinated in Durban where he was set to perform just over a week ago.

“When it comes to death, every day you get closer to your death. So, if you have ninety days left on this earth and you don’t know, like tomorrow it’s 89… 87… 86. yeah man, you just got to live life to the fullest. So, I was having those conversations in my head this week, I had a lot of anxiety this week man because of that AKA thing.” he said.

Women For Change weighs in

Women For Change, a Non-Profit organisation advocating against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide in South Africa, decided to weigh in on MacG’s comment.

According to the organisation, people like MacG should think about how anxious women in SA are since around 12 women are killed daily.

“So MacG had ‘lots of anxiety this week’ because of AKAs killing… In the past three months, we lost 12 sisters EVERY day! Most of them were murdered in the most brutal way, some of them raped before. Imagine how much anxiety the women in this country have. Being killed DAILY” wrote Women For Change.
