‘Voluntary admit yourself at Wiskopies’: Tweeps told Adv. Teffo after he announced his return as defence in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.

After many twists and turns, advocate Malesela Teffo announced his return as a defence lawyer to the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial – and South Africans on social media think the move is something out of a “telenovela”.

On Thursday 28 July, the outspoken lawyer representing four of the five men accused of murdering the soccer star in 2018, surprisingly announced that he would resume his role. This, after he shockingly withdrew from the case earlier this month citing allegations of harassment from the court, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and police.

But even more bizarre, is Teffo’s wild allegations that presiding Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela “bewitched” him with the help of a “sangoma” – which he allegedly brought to court!

In a series of tweets, Advocate Teffo announced that he would mark his return to the Senzo Meyiwa trial. He also said he was “prepared” for the “risks” involved in the case

He tweeted: “I will continue representing accused 1 to 4 and will be in court on 2 August 2022. It is time to deal with the institutionalized corruption within the SAPS and the NPA. I am prepared to deal with it even if it’s risky”.

Teffo then produced an official document in which he alleges the judge not only used muthi on him, but bewitched him with a sangoma, who was “in court”

He wrote in his sworn statement: “I started to have the nightmares after Judge Maumela brought his sangoma to court, and his ill-treatment against me increased more than ever before.

“I was reliably informed that the involvement of the sangoma in this matter was to cause me to collapse inside the court. This is the witchcraft aimed at destabilising the defence for accused 1 to 4, and myself being the main target in this regard.”

Teffo also accused Minister of Police Bheki Cele, Minister of Justice Ronald Lamola and fellow defence advocate Zandile Mshololo of being involved.

Following bombshell claims made by Teffo, South Africans took to Twitter to react.

Many were angry that Senzo Meyiwa’s murder trial was being turned into a “circus” and “telenovela”. Others, called Teffo “attention-seeking”, “delusional” and “unprofessional”.

@Bukhwane: “You must voluntary admit yourself at Wiskopies. I wonder why the General Council of the Bar and LPC are tolerating your unprofessional behaviour”

@YaKgutlaNaha: “Defamation case loading. You are not the correct person for this case. Everyone is your enemy in that court, next it will be viewers at home trying to collapse you”

@Mthunzie_Maps: “Wena you are not stable. So you are accusing the judge of witchcraft? I feel sorry for those you represent”

@NotYetUhuru1: “When attending pupilage programme, counsel are advised to stay away from social media or separate their professional life with social media. Now I see why”

@dineo_sithole1: “I think fame got to Teffo and we won’t be able to trust him. He has been singing the song of telling us the witness which is only known by him”

@lerasanza: “Malema called it. He is loving the exposure and is now the celebrity of the show. I don’t even know what’s happening with the case because it’s all about him now”
