The actress and singer Nondumiso Tembe broke her silence on her younger cousin Anele “Nelli” Tembe’s death that has sent shockwaves through the country.
On Tuesday 13 April 2021, the former Generations and Avengers actress took to social media to comment for the first time since the news of her cousin’s death broke on Sunday 11 April.
Nelli, who was engaged to the rapper AKA, reportedly plunged to her death from the 10th-floor penthouse of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town.
Her family confirmed her untimely death in a statement, saying: “It is with the deepest regret that we, the Tembe and Forbes families, confirm the untimely passing of our beloved fiancée, daughter, sister and daughter-in-law, Anele Tembe (22). Anele tragically passed on in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 11 April 2021,“ read the statement.
Now her cousin has responded with her own social media post:
“My baby. Ngiphelelwe amazwi – words fail me right now,” Nondumiso wrote. “We will hold you in our hearts forever. Lala kahle, mbali yethu (Rest well, our beautiful flower). Thank you so much to everyone who has sent kind words of comfort for our family, ngiyathokoza kakhulu (I’m grateful)”.
Actress Terry Pheto later offered her condolences to Nondumiso, writing: ”I’m so so sorry for your loss,” while Sthandiwe Kgoroge said “so sorry Nondu. Unbelievable.”
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Cape Town is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the horrific death of Nelli.
“Cape Town Central police are investigating an inquest case after an incident at a hotel this morning at about 07:45 on the corners of Loop and Bloem Street, Cape Town CBD where the body of a 22-year-old woman was found deceased,” SAPS spokesperson FC van Wyk said at the time of the incident. Police are yet to give an update.
