Cape Town’s Kloof Street makes top 30 ‘coolest streets in world’

Last year, 7th Street in Melville was listed as one of the coolest streets in the world, this year Cape Town’s Kloof Street is on the list!

It appears Cape Town can do no wrong when it comes to having some of the coolest and most beautiful places to visit. Last week, the city came in at number 11 on Times Now, “Best Cities in the World” poll, and now Kloof Street in Cape Town has taken the number 26th spot on the list of the “World’s Coolest Streets”.

Taking the number one spot on the list is Montreal’s Rue Wellington which voters said has  “gastronomic prowess and a vast number of thriving local businesses“.

It would not be the first time a South African street was recognised as one of the best streets in the world.

In fact, in 2021, Cape Town’s Kalk Bay Street and Melville Johannesburg’s 7th Street both made the list.

This year, however, only one South African street has been voted by Time Out’s “city-dwellers” as one for the books, and this time, it’s Cape Town’s Kloof Street – despite the fact that it leads into petty crime-riddled Long Street.

Around 20 000 people were asked to vote for their favourite streets based on whether it has “a vibrant community space, a thriving business district, or just a place that oozes fabulous vibes”.

Kloof Street must be pretty rad since it came in at 26th spot – which is far down the list, but on the list nonetheless.

And the top three are:

Meanwhile at number one on the list is Rue Wellington in Monaco which 2OceansVibe describes as a “picturesque, bustling street” in southwestern Montreal that is home to almost 200 businesses.

Number two is Melbourne’s Gertrude Street.

While taking the third spot is Great Western Road in Glasgow.
