Netflix’s The Kissing Booth became one of 2018’s most talked about and rewatched movies, and now, the creators are back for seconds, with the release of another instalment.

After its release on 24 July 2020, The Kissing Booth 2 has become one of the most-watched films of 2020 on Netflix across the globe which features up-and-coming South African actress Camilla Wolfson alongside Joel Courtney, Euphoria’s Jacob Elordi, and Emmy nominated actress Joey King.

Camilla, taking on one of her biggest roles, plays the role of Mia, a popular girl at Elle’s school, who leads the ‘OMG’ clique. These three characters cause all sorts of trouble by putting shaky thoughts into Elle’s head over her long-distance relationship.

In conversation with Camilla Wolfson

Camilla said that some of the actors became her closest friends after spending time on set.

“I wasn’t around for the first film and I was a late hire so I skipped a lot of the initial ice-breaking, but everyone made me feel very much a part of the team from day one which really made it special. I’m happy to call some of the actors my closest friends today,” the Durban-born actress who is now living in Cape Town later told The South African.

The actress, who pursued acting full-time after studying two degrees in Acting, French and Film, first starred in Johnny Knoxville’s Action Point where she played another Mia, the cheeky love interest to actor/stuntman Chris Pontius. After that, she continued to book supporting roles in various television series before securing a role in both sequels of The Kissing Booth.

About The Kissing Booth 3

“Number three was filmed in between filming two so it was a lot of hard work for everyone on set from production, to wardrobe and make up and the actors of course. The third film sees all character relationships under more pressure as we start to leave school behind and try and navigate our independence whilst not destroying the relationships we worked hard to preserve in school. It’s that interesting time where you’re suddenly thrust into more independence than you’re used to and you want to be responsible with your freedom whilst also having a little fun.”

On South African soil

It’s said that all three films were partly filmed in South Africa and Camilla is here for it.

“I think it’s amazing to see more and more Hollywood films being produced on South African soil. We have so much talent from writers, to crew and cast but we don’t always have the same constant outlets and the more trust Hollywood puts in us, I feel we can and have delivered and it only opens the doors for more African talent to come through to eventually tell our own stories to the world. Working with South Africans is always great because chances are you’ve probably worked with them before, it creates a sense of comfort going to work everyday.”

Make sure to catch The Kissing Booth on Netflix and see Camilla as the leader of the ‘OMG’ clique.
