A young bride and her husband have gone viral on Instagram after sharing how they managed to pull off a stunning wedding with only $500 (R7500). Taking to Instagram and TikTok, the young bride explained that they promised themselves they wouldn’t be spending too much.

And so they did certain things such as asking guests to pay for their own food to make sure they don’t go over their budget.

Couple spend R7.5k on perfect wedding by asking guests to buy their own food

Kiara and her partner Joel got engaged in December last year and decided that the wedding would take place shortly afterward and would be “very simple”.

Taking to Instagram after the wedding, Kiara shared that it wasn’t exactly the wedding of her dreams but she managed to make the most of her resources.

“With mixed emotions, I present to you our wedding video! our immediate family and family friends joined us to witness this union as my mom and her husband officiated.

“Joel and I decided to get married on December 21 and had this wedding on February 12. Was this the wedding of my dreams? No. Did I make the best of the resources we had? Heavens yeah.”

Later she took to TikTok to share how she only spent $500 (R7,500) on the wedding by asking guests to purchase their own food, only spending R700 on her wedding dress, and asking for cake and flowers donations from her friends and family.

Cutting the costs

In the now-viral video, she shares that she and her groom were not willing to fork out thousands to have people come and drink and eat at her wedding and so she did all she could to cut costs.

“I was not going into debt or prolonging this day to save up to pay for strangers/people who know nothing about our relationship to dine and drink on our dime.

“We were not trying to impress anybody but honour God and I believe this is what the origin of what a wedding ceremony is—you, your partner, witnesses and God,” she added.
