RETURN OF THE ANNUAL ZCC HERITAGE PILGRIMAGE

The St Engenas Zion Christian Church (ZCC) members who did not want their identities to be revealed, told The South African that they will be heading to Moria this weekend for their first Heritage pilgrimage since Covid-19 outbreak in 2020.

“An official invitation has been sent out by our Bishop Lekganyane, we are going to Moria this weekend for the first time since Covid”, said the church member.

The church member, who is from St Engenas Zion Christian Church (which is the sister church to ZCC with a star logo) could not confirm if both churches will have a mass gathering this weekend.

WHY THE CHURCHES CLOSED

The churches previously suspended all choirs, meetings, and gatherings, as well as the Easter and Heritage service in 2020 for the first time since the inception of the church in 1910.

The services which usually took place at Moria headquarters and attracted millions of people were halted by President Cyril Ramaphosa in March 2020, who declared a state of disaster and prohibited the gathering of crowds of more than 100 people.

In a statement from the church, ZCC said that the event may be held at a later date.

“Writing on behalf of His Grace Bishop Bishop BE Lekganyane together with the council of his office,” read the statement, “We would like to let you know that from the weekend of 21 to 22 March, the church choir and (mekhukhu), that were supposed to help with the church service preparations on the weekend of 28 to 29 March 2020, along with the Sunday school members and all church singers, that they should not come to Moria until further notice.

“We appeal that you obey our instruction and wait for further instruction from Moria. We hope that you will peacefully accept our notice.”
