No lame duck: Wrinkle hits the streets in bid to conquer NYC Marathon [watch]

Runners at the 50th New York City Marathon which was held on 7 November, were in for a surprise when Wrinkle the duck proved to be stiff competition.
Meet Wrinkle, the duck who completed the NYC marathon
According to People, Wrinkle is an emotional support duck that quickly went viral for sporting a pair of custom webbed sneakers:
“Wrinkle the duck is more than just a beautiful pekin duck, she is a full-grown adult human child,” her owner wrote with a YouTube video. “She is fast. She is speed. She is zoom. She is wrinkle. Still fast as duck boiiii.”
Runners and spectators alike were pleasantly surprised to see the duck in the race, cheering on the duck as she waddled by.
“Thanks to all the humans that were cheering for me!!” her owner further wrote on Instagram.
“This is the cutest thing I have ever seen,” one follower wrote. “I need Wrinkle’s brand shoes,” another commented. “Ducks supporting ducks,” the Aflac Duck wrote to Wrinkle on Instagram.
A new duck shoe collection?
Adidas also responded by saying: “Sending this to our design team to petition for a new duck shoe collection.”
It is reported that Wrinkle was one of 33 000 runners in the 42km race, including a variety of celebrities from television, movies, music, and sports. Wrinkle did not run the entire marathon, but completed the “home stretch” of 800m.
This was the first time the New York City Marathon has been held since 2019 after it was cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Unfortunately, the duck did not take first place. Albert Korir of Kenya took gold in the men’s race and Peres Jepchirchir of Kenya – who also won gold in the women’s marathon at the Tokyo Olympics – won the women’s race.
