‘R111 FOR MILK’: TWEEPS TROLL WOOLIES

The R111 milk debate began when former 7de Laan actor Nico Panagio, who’s hosted TV shows such as Top Billing and Survivor South Africa bid farewell to Woolworths as a customer.

“Dear @WOOLWORTHS_SA been wonderful having you around – great quality (most of the time) however since you keep putting your prices up (weekly it seems), you’re gonna see us less & less. Thought I should tell you since we’ve been in a trading relationship for so very long. “

Twitter users reacted to the media personality’s tweet by revealing that they were shocked to discover that a 6x 1 litre pack of milk is now R111.

@RoryPetzer revealed that it doesn’t make sense that 6 x 1 litre long life milk is R89,99 at Spar and R111,99 at Woolworths.

“Why is it R22 more expensive at Woolworths? That’s almost R4 more per litre. Is it milkier milk?”

@Tshimangadzoo:

I was shocked when I saw the R111 milk price. Sometime last year we were just tweeting how affordable everyday essentials were at woolies but now not anymore. It has become overpriced overnight. Then there are 18 eggs for R100.”

@Nomakhephu22:

“The R111 milk shook me.”

Tweeps also revealed that it’s not just milk prices that have increased but fish hake has also increased by 85%.

“We enjoy Fish Goujons, sadly, the price has since increased by 85,72%compared to last year”, tweeted @Qhudiqhudi

MORE SOUTH AFRICANS ‘COMPLAIN’ ABOUT WOOLWORTHS

@javalavaava:

“Dear Woolworths, unfortunately, I have to agree that we’re being forced to move on. We used to buy your wors for our very allergic son, just to arrive home and see the tiniest sticker announcing that it is no longer allergen-free. Disappointing and honestly, quite reckless.”

@KloppMarc:

“To all the comments regarding milk price, you do realise the milk producers have to run generators with millions of rands of diesel thanks to load shedding just to keep putting the product on the shelf right? Sometimes we who are privileged enough to shop at Woolies Must relax.”
