Independent Media have released the teaser trailer of their docuseries surrounding their investigations on child trafficking and the controversial “Tembisa 10″…

The media house dropped a one-minute and 45-seconds clip of what they call their “Netflix-style” series, titled Baby Trade: Tracking the Truth on Thursday 18 November.

The 10-part series will also explore exactly what happened when Johannesburg mother Gosiame Sithole allegedly delivered her 10 babies earlier this year in a news story which went viral around the world.

TEMBISA 10 FINDINGS UNCOVERED IN DOCUSERIES

In a press conference last month, Independent Media executive chairman Iqbal Survé stated that the media house would be producing a docuseries based on their findings of the Tembisa 10, as well as child trafficking syndicates that allegedly take place in hospitals and clinics in South Africa.

The story of the alleged decuplets was first reported by Pretoria News journalist Piet Rampedi in June 2021. The story took a dramatic turn with reports of cover-ups, threats, psychiatric evaluations and the guise that the decuplets were “fake news”.

However both Piet and Gosiame stood firm in their statements of the existence of the babies, and as a result, Independent Media “came to the realisation that the babies may well have been trafficked”.

Independent Media: ‘Sickening cover-up’

Survé described the discovery of the investigation as a “sickening cover-up and on a scale that should be ringing the bells of alarm from the president down”.

In the teaser trailer of Baby Trade: Tracking the Truth, a narrator is heard saying:

“In June 2021, a story hit the headlines that spotlighted child trafficking. The Tembisa 10 made global headlines. But despite the congratulations, and the happy smiling face of the father, a different story began to surface that resulted in a swift-about turn by some of the main characters of the story that follows

“This is the story of the baby trade and our journey to track the truth…because the truth will never be trafficked”.

NETFLIX NOT INVOLVED

Despite being described as a “Netflix-style” series, the docu-series was produced by Independent Media and will be released independently.

A Netflix SA representative said that the streaming service is “not affiliated” with the docu-series, and that they would “not be commenting further”.

The media house has not set an official release date for Baby Trade: Tracking the Truth, but invited viewers to “follow the series on Independent Media platforms”.
