‘South African new banknotes promoting baby mama era’: Tweeps

Social media users took jabs at South Africa’s new banknotes and coins which were unveiled on Wednesday, 3 May by the SARB.

South Africans took to social media on Wednesday, 3 May to react to the new banknotes and coins which celebrate family ties, whales and honey bees.

‘BUT THE NEW NOTES ARE FATHERS AND SONS’

The discussion on the new banknotes and coins began when a tweep @AdvoBarryRoux tweeted: “South Africa new notes are promoting the “baby mama era” I mean each animal is chilling with its cub. They should be working on strengthening the currency first, the Rand has been performing very poorly lately.”

A social media user @mambo_chami revealed that the new R50 note is actually father and son (lion and its cub “But this one is father and son.”

News24 reports that the new banknotes and coins celebrate family ties, whales, and honey bees. The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) added enhanced security features, a splash of more colour, and some new plants and animals to the country’s currency.

“The changes, announced on Wednesday, were in line with international best practice, where generally it is recommended that countries upgrade banknotes and coins regularly to fight against counterfeit notes,” adds the publication.
