Why SA Twitter hilariously asks ‘Dear Americans’ to send money

Twitter users in South Africa are asking citizens if the United States for money as “we’re dying of hunger” and because “lions are chasing us and elephants are eating us”.

This, according to a Twitter user by the name, Thabza_sbanyoni.

The user later tagged South African-born comedian Trevor Noah, saying that The Daily Show host “knows our struggles”, according to Times Live.

Other users joined in, sharing “stories” about how hard it is to live in South Africa, and why it is crucial to send money quickly.

SA Twitter jokes about how hard it is to live in South Africa

“Please help we’re dying of hunger here, $200 dollars would help me and my family to get to our nearest shelter Konka,” one Twitter user joked in reference to the Konka nightclub — the so-called “millionaire’s playground” in Soweto.

“I have not eaten for 5 days. The nearest river is 10 miles away. Since its hyenas mating season, we cannot leave our houses. They ate my neighbours son,” said DrMkhize4.

“There is a leopard staying in my cave. Now i don’t have any shelter, currently sleeping in the tree ….please help!!” said Memory81284079.

The best comment, however, went to nirvana_mk, according to various replies:

Others asked for beer:

“Lol, the Gorillas have taken our crops and the crocodile (alligators) are not allowing us to draw water from the river. Please send beer,” said MasterChang8.

“Not four hyenas attacking my shelter and eating my last chicken, if one American can send me U$D1000 I will have dinner tonight,” said qon_dize of the tweet that garnered more than 30 000 likes.
