Mzansi’s favourite looted blue couch is currently on tour

When you think you’ve heard it all, the news hits that South Africa’s most popular couch is on tour. The San Pablo leather sofa first became famous when it was looted from Leather Gallery.

After it was taken, the owners of the store called on the help of locals to help them locate the R70k couch. Bizarrely, their calls were answered as the couch was soon found and restored to its usual state.

And now, Greg Parry, Leather Gallery’s co-owner has revealed that the couch is touring Gauteng.

“Our famous blue San Pablo Leather Corner Couch is currently on a tour in Gauteng. It is being featured in the malls that our stores are located in,” said Parry.

According to a statement shared by Leather Gallery, the couch received a great reaction while it was on show in Durban. This prompted the decision to have the couch visit various other malls in SA where people can take a selfie with it.

The statement also touches on the laughs that the couch brought to the country during a very difficult period.

‘Light during dark times’

“We decided to take the famous blue San Pablo Leather Corner Couch on tour. It received such a great reaction here in Durban at our showroom based at our flagship warehouse and head offices,” said Parry.

“The blue San Pablo Leather Corner Couch was such a light in those dark times during the looting. It went viral on social media and in the news, making people forget about the terrible things that were happening around them. Just for a moment it lightened their moods.

“We hope to continue this tour and will keep our customers and community updated on our social media as to where it will be going next. So that everyone can get a selfie with the actual famous blue San Pablo Leather Corner Couch.”

The couch is currently on show at Menlyn Park Shopping Centre until December 20. The next stop will be Kolonnade Shopping Centre on a date yet to be confirmed.
