TRESemmé out, Versace in? After a journalist writing for the SowetanLive reported Julius Malema of turning up at the voting booth in a pair of R2 000 Versace jeans, the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) leader has threatened to sue the publication and challenged the reporter to show the price tag.

However, while the Versace jeans saga continues, many have recalled Juju’s historic penchant for expensive clothing, accessories…and a luxurious lifestyle.

Julius Malema’s lifestyle in question

It turns out that Juju has on numerous occasions been questioned over displaying double standards by donning a workers’ overall in parliament the one day, and the next strutting around in luxury clothing and accessories.

According to TimesLive, Malema has previously stated that you can live extravagantly and demand social justice at the same time.

Malema’s expensive taste: You can’t put a price tag on style

Back in 2014, Malema and Fikile Mbalula were waging a Twitter war over the way he dressed for a court date after he was spotted wearing a black Louis Vuitton belt with a navy blue suit, a white shirt and a red tie.

At the time, it was reported that a Louis Vuitton belt costs anything between R3 500 to R35 000.

That bloody Breitling agent…

Meanwhile, in 2010, IOL looked into Malema’s millions, saying Malema owns a Breitling watch worth a whopping R250 000. Breitling men’s watches are said to be some of the world’s most coveted timepieces. It has been favoured by Malema and controversial businessman Kenny Kunene alike.

The watch became headline news in 2018 when AfriForum obtained a writ of execution from the North Gauteng High Court in order to attach movable assets belonging to Malema and his party. AfriForum wanted the cost orders issued by the court on two separate cases against Malema and the EFF in a 2017 matter.

At the time, the CEO of AfriForum said they believed that Malema’s Breitling watch and a luxury car ought to be enough to cover the debt.

Malema’s taste for Louis Vuitton

Juju was also spotted wearing a Louis Vuitton scarf, a Louis Vuitton beanie, Louis Vuitton shoes, a Burberry coat and what appears to be Louis Vuitton gloves at singer and composer Tsepo Tshola’s funeral earlier this year.

Juju’s net worth

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Malema’s net worth is around R45 million. Malema has had a varying degree of success in the business world and has been involved in lucrative deals with several companies. It is said that his success in business and entrepreneurial activity can be traced back to Segwalo Consulting Engineers CC, which he got involved with in 2004.

However, he’s been accused of siphoning certain funds into one of his trust accounts. Meanwhile, a VBS scandal also exposed Julius Malema alleged corrupt dealings.

The EFF leader also owns a plush property in Hyde Park, Johannesburg.
