Hyundai and Kia thefts increase following social media challenge

Kia and Hyundai thefts are on the rise around the world due to the social media challenge encouraging people to break into cars.

The social media Kia and Hyundai challenge is causing thefts and damage to these cars all around the world.

KIA AND HYUNDAI THEFTS

The viral social media challenge, which began on TikTok is encouraging people to break into Kia and Hyundai cars around the world, according to ECR.

Carscoops also reveals that the ‘Kia Challenge’ shows social media users how to steal certain Kia and Hyundai models. 

The publication adds that social media users simply remove the plastic cowl under the steering column by using a USB cable.

This has led to a decrease in purchasing some of these cars and has led owners to worry about their safety.

The social media challenge has reportedly also encouraged teenagers known as the ‘Kia Boys’, who are notorious for stealing cars to take them on dangerous joyrides.

ENSURING SAFETY FOLLOWING SOCIAL MEDIA CHALLENGE

WFAA news, reveals that the Kia and Hyundai car thefts can happen in less than a minute. 

Webmd shares some tips for car owners and encourage them to take measures to ensure the safety of their vehicles:

  • Park in a well-lit area
  • Do not leave valuables in plain view
  • Always lock your doors and wind up windows
  • Do not park near anything that can inhibit the view of your car 
  • Always be alert and expect the unexpected
  • Put a tracker and alarm in your car if you can
