Judge Leicester Adams pointed out that the man had essentially failed to routinely make payments on his divorce settlement after officially parting ways with his wife in 1995.

As per the judgement of divorce, the man was obligated to fork out monthly maintenance of R750 as well as contribute to her education, from nursery until tertiary. According to Business Insider, their daughter is now a registered psychologist who completed her studies at the University of Witwatersrand.

In addition, he was obligated to foot the bill for her medical and dental costs, the publication reported.

According to his ex-wife, in 2016, his financial obligations had come to a little over R230 000 and the man failed to remain consistent in making payments. For instance, in 2004, he had paid a total of just over R28 000, as opposed to the R70 000 that had been expected from him.

Judge Adams also pointed out that the man could not produce evidence of monies he claimed to have paid to his ex-wife.

“It is also instructive that nowhere in his papers does [he] even attempt to give an indication of the amounts he alleges he paid to [his ex-wife] pursuant to the maintenance orders incorporated into the court order of September 1995,” he said.

The judge found that the ex-wife was entitled to his assets, unless he settles the massive bill.
