South Africans often fantasise about how great the country would be if our leaders were young and vibey, something the European country of Finland has in its prime minister (PM) who is only 36 years old.

On Wednesday 17 August, Sanna Marin made headlines after a video of her partying up a storm was leaked. According to Visegrad24, critics say her behaviour is not fitting for PM. However, on social media, she is being hailed as “cool,” “awesome” and “hot”.

FINLAND’S PM LAMBASTED FOR PARTYING TOO MUCH

The political publication revealed that the Finnish PM’s party going made headlines for the first time during the pandemic in December 2019. At the time, she had gone out partying when she didn’t bring the phone, that the PM should have on her at all times.

When she received backlash in 2019, Marin reportedly issued a lengthy statement apologising on Facebook and saying that she was “really sorry” for her actions.

Marin became Finland’s youngest prime minister in 2019.

The recent viral video shows Marin drinking with a group of friends as they sing and dance to songs by Finnish rapper Petri Nygård and pop singer Antti Tuisku.

It currently isn’t clear when the video was shot, however, it was posted to Instagram on Wednesday, The Independent reported.

TWEEPS THINK SANNA MARIN IS ‘COOL’

While publication in Finland report about Marin’s party scandal as she gets dragged, Twitter users think that critics are being hard on her.

“People wonder why they end up with robot politicians and then go mad when they see one being remotely normal,” one tweep wrote.

“Uhm. In a world where so many (male) world leaders have attended parties with child traffickers, I think the Finnish PM’s partying is not a big deal. I kind of want to go to a party with her,” another netizen expressed.

“I’m sorry madam prime minister but you are causing controversy for raving too hard and being far too cool and awesome,” ABC news journalist Matthew Bevan said.
