If you rely on e-hailing services to get around, you’ve probably found yourself in a predicament this week.

That’s because services like Bolt, Uber, Didi and others are not operating as per usual due to a nationwide strike.

According to reports, drivers handed over a memorandum of demands at the Union Buildings over their grievances. The drivers are also demanding increased pay and safety and for the sector to be regulated.

TWEEPS REACT TO E-HAILING STRIKE

The e-hailing strike trended on Twitter with many reacting to the news of a transport disruption.

Many tweeps bemoaned the prices of Uber and Bolt rides that were still operating. Due to an increased demand and few cars on the road, the price of rides has increased exponentially.

For many an affordable ride under R50 was now costing five times as much – or more!

In typical Mzansi style, many tweeps took the time to make jokes about the e-hailing strike, with some even teasing “alternative transport” ideas.

One tweep cited: “Finding a ride is as hard as finding love today”. Another warned others driving Toyota Corollas to “stay home”.
